1.Chatsworth Train Collision($500 million)

You must have heard about several train collisions in your life.According to wikipedia India occupies the first position in total no. of train accidents in a year. However India is fortunate to have not witnessed the world's most expensive train accident, which was responsible for a loss of around 500 million dollars!
Chatsworth of U.S.A on 12th december, 2008 witnessed the most expensive train crashes in the history. When union specific frit train and metrolink commuter train collapsed with each other.
This accident was because of fault of driver of metrolinked train, as he was unable to see the red signal and Because of which metrolink suffered a loss of about 500 million dollars( around 3100 crores) and 25 lives.
2. B-2 Stealth Bomber Crash ($1.4 Billion)

B-2 Stealth was an american fighter plane made up of steel.Due to it's high expense there are only 21 such planes made in whole american history. One of these plane after taking take off from Anderson airport crashed after sometime.
This accident was due to some technical failure in its control system and is estimated to cost over 1.4 billions to its investors.
3. Prestige Oil Spill, 2002 ($12 Billion)

On 13th november 2002 ,an oil ship named prestige was travelling with 31,000 metric tons of oil in it and suddenly a storm raged near the shore of spain. The ship got struck in the storm and soon breaked into two parts, because of which nearly 20 million gallons of oil split into the sea. However this was not the real potential loss.
The real loss was in cleaning process of the polluted ocean. Because of this incident, nearly 1000 beaches of portuguese and french were affected killing hundreds of water animals.
According to a report the company suffered a loss of around 75,000 crores ,just in the cleaning process of sea shores!
4. Space Shuttle Columbia Explosion, 2003 ($13 Billion)

This was the accident in which Kalpana chawla along with 6 other astronauts died in colombia, while returning back from her space mission!
While coming back in earth's atmosphere, columbia space shuttle catches fire due to a small hole in it's wings.
Because of this incident NASA suffered a huge potential loss of around 13 billion dollars (about 80,000 crores)!
5. Chernobyl nuclear incident ($200 Billion)

The most expensive accident of human history took place on 26 April 1986, when a nuclear reactor at Chernobyl power station exploded.
The accident is believed to have killed nearly 1 lakh 25 thousand peoples and a total of 2 lakhs people were affected because of it.
The total cost of cleaning,compensation to the victims and resettlement is said to have cost a total of 200 billion dollars!
